Rose Festival 2006
In total, some 50,000 people visited the 2006 Rose Festival with the theme 'Roses through the ages". These were more than expected, since the rain came pouring down for almost the entire Rose Festival. The only sunny day was Sunday, which immediately made around 30,000 people decide to visit the Rose Festival. On the access roads to Lottum, as well as on the ferry between Lomm and Lottum it was extremely busy. Never before in the history of the Rose Festival so many volunteers were involved in the festival to make it a success. No less than twice as many mosaics and objects decorated the streets of Lottum. One of the mosaic contributions was from the German village Walbeck. Also several groups of school children from the primary schools of Broekhuizen / Broekhuizenvorst and Lottum contributed in making their own designs of mosaics. Besides an abundance of roses this year, it also was the first time a day and evening programme of music was offered at the Borggraaf Castle and at the Market Square. Even in church, decorated with 10,000 roses, musical artist were performing. Provincial governor Frissen is a regular visitor of the Rose Festival, and calls it a "mini Floriade which I see as a stepping stone to the great world-horticultural exhibition in 2012."
