History

Opening van De Rozenhof (Klik voor een grote weergave)

Rozenhof in the Rose Village Lottum was formed at the initiative of the Foundation Lottum Rose Village, and on 8 April 2006 was officially opened by the then Minister of Education Maria van der Hoeven. The objective of the Rozenhof Lottum is to create more awareness of the Dutch "Top rose" and German "ADR-Rose", roses which flourish best in the Dutch or German climate. Since 2009, The Rozenhof is complete and besides all Dutch Top Roses also all German ADR Roses are planted in the garden.
Another part of the Rozenhof is the assessment garden. In a special part of the garden a periodic survey of submitted garden rose varieties are inspected and awarded.
This assessment is conducted four times per flowering season by inspectors of the Inspection Permanent Commission (VKC). If a species achieves three years of satisfactory rating point, it may be added to the range of Top Roses.

Since 2007, every month of June the Rozenhof is host for the “Week of the Pot Rose". During this week exhibitions of the best pot roses are held in the garden. In addition, this week the national testing for pot and container roses are organised.

The Rose Knowledge Centre, on site of the rosary, opened in 2006 and provides all information about roses, the "Queen of Flowers" and about Lottum, the Rose Village.

The realization of the Rozenhof was made possible by:

  • City Horst aan de Maas,
  • Ceres (European promotion fund),
  • Foundation Lottum Rose Village,
  • Province of Limburg
  • And many volunteers.

These volunteers shall continue daily for the maintenance of the rosary and the staff of the Rose Knowledge Centre.
